Places to visit during your self catering holiday rental in Loire Atlantique, France

Le Croisic This incredibly small, yet attractive resort will offer you a pleasant stay during your holiday rental in Loire Atlantique due to its relaxed and rather laid back feel that the town has. A lively town with plenty of activity going on, fishing in particular. Be sure to visit Trehic jetty when on holiday as this wonderful fish market often has the catch for the day on sale.

Pornic This small, but beautiful sleepy harbour town is the ideal place to enjoy lazy days by the sea. Be sure to enjoy some fantastic sea food during your stay and explore some of the wonderful historical buildings in the area. This medieval city that overlooks the port is home to the Giles de Rais chateau.

Nantes Located where the Erde River and Loire River meet, this old medieval city is built around a cathedral. The impressive Chateau is situated to the south east. The modern 19th century part of the town lies in the west. Visitors looking for some greenery will be pleased to know that Nantes boasts some impressive gardens. There are also a large number of magnificent restaurants, bars and cafes, along with glorious parks and some fantastic shopping that can be enjoyed in the city centre.

St Nazaire located by the Atlantic Ocean set on the estuary of the Loire River. The department has a fine long standing tradition for shipbuilding and fishing in the area. St Nazaire has gone down in the history books as the setting for the greatest war time raid during World War two.

La Baule Hailed as the French Riviera of the Loire Atlantique, La Baule boasts the longest sand beach in the whole of Europe. At 12 Kilometres long, this wonderful beach along with its selection of wealthy houses are the main reasons that this area of France has been given its French Riviera status.

Chateaubriant situated inland, this fortress town is home to a towering castle, half of which is feudal and the other half dating back to the Renaissance period. It has a strong air of mystery surrounding it. Many believe this is due to its location in the old dark woods and lakes of the town. Part of the historic duchy of Brittany Chateaubriant lies approximately 49km north of Ancenis, 69km north of Nantes and 68 km south of Rennes.

The department experiences a mild temperate climate. The summer months between June and September see the temperature averaging at around 25°C. Even during  the winter months the temperature remains above  5°C which is much warmer than the winters we experience back here in the UK. The maritime climate can see the winter’s days being drizzly and windy but the temperature still remains mild.

There are two main Airports that serve the Loire Atlantique department; these are Rennes (ZFJ) and Nantes (NTE) both of which are served by RyanAir from Dublin (DUB), London Stansted (STN) and East Midlands (EMA). Alternatively you can take a ferry from the UKs south coast to St Malo or even take the TGV train service that runs from Paris direct to Angers or Nantes.

To summarise, taking a Rent-in-France self catering holiday home in the Loire Atlantique is the perfect choice to enjoy a wide range of outdoor activities. Whether you are looking for fine cuisine, great walking, watersports, lazy days down on the beach or relaxing by the banks of the beautiful rivers - there is definitely something for everyone to enjoy!
