Private Rural Holiday Gite Nr Perigueux - An Oasis of calm in the Dordogne, France

LES CHARMETTES is a beautifully restored French farmhouse situated near the hamlet of St. Geyrac, within easy reach of Perigueux in the Dordogne. Situated at the and of a private drive, it has its own private heated swimming pool(May-September).Surrounded by meadows, the house offers all creature comforts and privacy, while being very convenient for access to the principal tourist haunts of Les Eyzies, Le Bugue, Sarlat, Lascaux, as well as forays into the Bordeaux wine region, and the brandy houses at Fleac. The hall, kitchen and living areas all have French windows/doors overlooking the meadow, making the area bright and airy. The floors are are fitted with underfloor central heating for the winter. The entrance is through French doors into a hallway with balcony and stairs to the mezzanine sleeping area. The living area, under a cathedral ceiling with open beams, features an open fireplace, and is nicely furnished providing a comfortable atmosphere. One master bedroom has open beams under another cathedral ceiling, French doors and a “bulls eye” window. This has its own ensuite bathroom. To the left of the main hallway is another bedroom with its own loo/shower. Both these bedrooms have inbuilt wardrobes, and a chest of drawers. The upstairs twin bedroom has a beautiful view over the paddock.

Located in the Dordogne, the area is rich in outdoor activities such as canoeing, swimming, horse-riding, rambling, fishing, and there are two golf courses within easy reach. Perigueux hosts an international festival of mime each summer, and the area abounds with a plethora of international level concerts and other cultural activities. Astronomers get virtually zero light pollution and very good seeing. For those with an interest in china and pottery, Limoges is about 90 mins away. The area is also close to the Bastide area which hosted many of the last battles of the 100 years war, not to mention the French religious wars. The area offers archeologists and history buffs a seemingly endless choice of chateaux and castles. There is a small supermarket about 10 minutes away and the nearest local restaurant, featuring local specialities, is about 5 minutes away. In the winter, in addition to the usual markets, there are truffles on sale nearby, as well as duck, goose and all manner of different cheeses, many of which are made locally.
