Local Attractions
Adissan is conveniently located between the stunning Cervennes mountains and the beaches of the mediterranean. There are limited amenities in the village itself, including a small general store, post office and boulangerie/pizza bakery (very good pizzas!). The village of Paulhan which is about 2 miles away along the D30 (turn left out of the house, then follow the road round to the right then straight on) has very good facilities, including an excellent Carrefour supermarket (turn right once you get to Paulhan), banks, cashpoints, restaurants and a good chemist/pharmacy.
We’d strongly recommend a visit to Pezenas, (10 minute drive south on the A75 towards Beziers). Pezenas old town dates from the 16th century and has been delightfully preserved. There are numerous restaurants and shops in the pedestrianised streets squares and alleyways of the old town. Pezenas is also something of an antique and ‘brocante’ centre with many shops to browse mainly located on the Avenue de Verdun.
We’d also recommend the Lac du Salagou (with a range of activities including walking, mountain bikes for hire, sailing, windsurfing, swimming, pedalos etc); the stunning Pont Roman near the ancient village of Gignac is a great picnic/swimming spot and has an excellent visitor centre. The pretty port village of Marseillan is good for restaurants and shops.
The closest beaches are found at Meze, which has a couple of small beaches on the ‘Etang de Thau’ suitable for very young children, Marseillan Plage is the closest Mediterranean beach but can be crowded. We prefer Serignan Plage, which is just past Beziers. Its worth checking out the ‘sea jousting’ at Meze if you are there at the right time.
