Farmhouse with Pool near Richelieu, Loire Valley, France
La Zuzaliere boasts a south facing garden and is situated near Richelieu in the Loire Valley. The property is 200 years old and has been built from local limestone called 'Tuffe' with roofing in clay pantiles and slate. It is surrounded on all sides by rolling countryside it enjoys lovely views. The main part of the garden,which includes the private swimming pool, is south facing creating a sun-trap from breakfast time through to the evening. Overlooking the garden and pool there is a covered dining area with hardwood table and chairs. There is also a pretty enclosed courtyard surrounded by old stone barns and a wine press.
Richelieu is about 10 minutes away by car and is small picturesque market town with excellent restaurants, friendly bars and a good supermarket. Chinon is about 30 minutes drive away and is a charming medieval town with an imposing historic chateau and echo. Further afield are other Loire chateaux including the beautiful Azay-le-Rideau (45 mins) and Usse (of Sleeping Beauty fame). Chambord and Chenonceau also make a great day out.
Futuroscope is about 30 minutes drive away just north of historic Poitiers. There are, of course, lots of vineyards to visit and wines to taste including Chinon and Haut Poitou.
