Charming Traditional Cottage in Torchamp, Near Domfront, Orne, Normandy
Le Cottage Normand is a beautiful, traditional Colombage cottage situated deep in the countryside on a quiet lane with easy access to local amenities.
The property has been sympathetically restored to a high standard by the current owners who believe that guests will love it as much as they do. It is believed to date back to the late 17th Century with later additions made in the 18th Century. The property is cosy and comfortable making it a fantastic place to relax, away from the hustle and bustle of modern living. Le Cottage Normand is ideal for families who seek peace and quiet in a calm, rural setting or perhaps even a romantic location for a honeymoon couple!
The ground floor comprises a spacious, comfortable lounge, kitchen/dining room, cloakroom, toilet and utility room. The original goat barn has been converted into a snug that is accessed from the lounge and ideal for even quieter moments!
The first floor is accessed from the lounge and has three bedrooms. The master bedroom has a bath and en-suite WC and washbasin.
There is a separate shower room and 2 further bedrooms.
It is ‘far from the madding crowd’ but provides an excellent base to visit the many attractions of the region. The village of Torchamp is 8 minutes away where there is a small shop and Bar and Restaurant. In the opposite direction, the beautiful medieval town of Domfront is a 7-minute drive. Here you will find supermarkets, chemists, restaurants and hairdressers but the real joy is the history. The castle (with dungeons!) is linked to William the Conqueror and the 100-year war and the square in the centre of town is simply beautiful, with cobbled streets and timber houses everywhere. The view from the castle is spectacular.
A short walk through the castle grounds takes you to a house built into the side of the cliff where you will find a plaque that commemorates the hiding of airmen, by the French resistance, during WW11.
20 minutes from Domfront, you find the ‘belle epoque’ spa town of Bagnoles de l’Orne and 1 hour in the other direction sees you at the Normandy coast.
