Top 10 Ski Resorts in France – Skiing in France 2019/2020

Which are the top 10 Ski resorts in France? I don’t go skiing myself, that’s far too adventurous for me. So, It's to Google and search for the best ski resorts in France and take tips from the people who know about this sort of thing.

There is a great website called ‘Snow.co.uk’ and, as you would imagine, its about all things related to messing about in the snow. And, according to Sno, the following are, in their opinion, the top 10 skiing resorts in France

  • Val d’Lsera: Sno reckons that not many ski resorts can come close to Val d’lsere.  The piste powder, the parties or for its snow-covered -beauty. Val d’lesre apparently has everything you could wish for: Olympic downhills just like La Face, daunting moguls likeEpaule du Charvet, glacier pistes as of the Pissals and lots of blues and reds (Green trails are easiest, blue trails are more difficult, and black trails are rated most difficult. The colours which represent a trail will also be seen in a shape. Red slopes are considered advanced-intermediate runs and have a steep gradient for confident skiers. A red ski run is for good skiers that like a challenge.
  • Chamonix: Regarded as one of the original ski slopes, Chamonix or ‘Cham’ hosted the first winter Olympics in 1924. It has since been an ever-present and at the forefront of on the sport. Loved by some for the amazing scenery, the views of the forests and hamlets and the Mont Blanc massive. Not as easy to get from one slope to another as some of the other resorts but a classic nonetheless. Properties in this area.
  • Meribel: A favourite to many due to the beautiful Alpine scenery and the charm of the wooden chalets that are dotted about the areas. The Three Valleys, as the name suggests, consists of the three parallel valleys of Courchevel, Méribel and Belleville. With 600 km of interconnected slopes and 180 ski lifts, you are spoilt for choice.
  • Tignes: What Tignes lacks in the aesthetics of the other resorts it makes up for it in the quality of the ski slopes. There is plenty do off-piste and the apres activities seem endless (Après ski is literally French for "after ski," and it's a general phrase to describe the social activities that take place after a day spent hitting the slopes)
  • Courchevel: With a total piste of all varieties totalling more than 600M, Courchevel has it all and in style. A fantastic resort for beginners with friendly slopes and beautiful views. Courchevel is also reputed for its style, which it has in abundance. If it's designer shops you are looking for, then you will be in the right location. Glamour, shopping, style and skiing. What more would you want?
  • Les 2 Alps: Known as L2A to one and all, this is different from other places you would go skiing. Whilst your normal slope is steep at the top and graduates the lower you go, L2A does the opposite. Instead of being scared stiff at the top and cruising at the home run, L2A gives you a sedate and smooth jump off and something to really think about on the home run. Well worth a visit.

Top 10 French Ski resorts 2019/2020

  • Morzine: The main resort of what is the world’s biggest International Ski area, Portes du Solei’l not just in size but in character and location. Les Portes du Soleil is a major ski sports destination in the Alps, encompassing thirteen resorts between Mont Blanc in France and Lake Geneva in Switzerland. A great family ski location. Bars, restaurants and shops aplenty, this is a great place to be at any time. Self-catering in this area.
  • La Plagne: Eating up half of the great Paradiski, La Plagne has lots of space and plenty of skiing for everyone. Paradiski is a ski area in the Tarentaise Valley of France that offers uninterrupted skiing in between the areas of Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne. 70% of the ski slopes are above 2000m. Self-catering in La Plagne
  • Val Thorens: You will need a head for heights when you decide to step off al Val Thorens. The highest slopes of them all at 2300m. Having a longer ski season than others due to natural location and has views of the French, Italian and Swiss Alps. Reds and Blues take the top spot, a great place for the more experienced skier. Skiing self-catering chalets.
  • Alp D’Huez: L'Alpe d'Huez is a ski resort at 1,250 to 3,330 metres. It is a mountain pasture in the Central French Western Alps, in the commune of Huez, which is part of the department of Isère in the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. It is part of the Grandes Rousses massif, over the Oisans, and is 59 kilometres from Grenoble. One for the experts here with more than 600m of Black runs (Expert Only. Extremely Difficult. These trails are even more difficult than Black Diamond, due to exceptionally steep slopes and other hazards such as narrow trails, exposure to wind, and the presence of obstacles such as steep drop-offs or trees. They are intended only for the most experienced skiers.)

It's not all skiing! Self-Catering French holidays are very popular

Not everyone spends their entire vacation on the slopes. There are some tourists who like to have a day out or a weekend on the slopes whilst enjoying the rest of their vacation touring around the area. That is the real beauty of self-catering holiday rentals in France.

Because you are not tied to any resort itinerary, you are free to pick and choose where to go, what to do and when to do it. Rent-in-France has some fantastic self-catering holiday chalets, villas, houses and more in many of the locations close to the ski slopes.

Its a simple task of visiting the main website pages and tapping in the area you fancy. You are bound to find something to suit your taste and pocket. If you need any help with making a booking or you need more information, please contact rent-in-France and we will be delighted to help.
