Self catering stone-built village house to rent in Pyrenees-Orientales | France
Estagel's oldest houses were built side by side in a circle for defense. You still have to pass through the arch in the old bell tower to reach our house on the inner circle. Parts of the 3 storey house are very old but successive French families have added modern comforts.
The ground floor has a large storage room to each side as you step into the hallway from the street. Other than the washing machine there is very little to interest a holidaymaker apart from space to store bags, bikes, buckets and spades, or furniture if you are spending some time here house-hunting.
A black and white marble staircase spirals up to the second floor. Here you will find a small but well equipped kitchen with a table, small balcony, sink 4 gas hobs, mini oven, built in fridge and separate freezer, pans, knives etc. etc...
On the same floor is a dining/ sitting room with a table for eight. There is a leather arm chair and matching sofa for two and a large, high quality double sofa bed to sleep two or seat four. We have a large television with satellite channels. To the right of the stairs is the master bedroom which has French doors onto a small balcony and has a double four poster bed. Next to the master bedroom is the shower room and separate toilet. A baby bath / changing station is stored downstairs and fits neatly into the bathroom if required. A high chair, travel cot and bedding and baby towels are also available on request. The stairs continue up to the third floor where you will find a large, contemporary bedroom to the left with a double bed, walk-in wardrobe and house library. Please feel free to swap fictional books from our shelves with what ever you fancy on the shelves but please leave the guide books and maps for the next visitors.
At the top of the stairs is the third bedroom with access to the roof terrace. We installed a double bed and wardrobe etc in September and it is the sunniest room in the house but please be warned: it’s a big bed in a tiny room! On the roof terrace is a barbecue, an oval wooden table with a parasol and 6 matching chairs. The terrace is quite private with high walls on three sides. I spent a very hot week chipping off the old paint and refurbishing it in a less dazzling shade last September so it will be the perfect spot to spend lazy days enjoying the sun, wine and good meals this summer.
