Local Attractions
Les Hirondelles is set in the small hamlet of St Civran in the Indre department of Centre region. It has a feel of being nicely off the beaten track while being easy to get to, and an ideal base for exploring the local area.

Les Hirondelles is set on the edge of La Brenne, one of France’s 36 Parcs Naturel Régionaux. Known as the Region of a Thousand Lakes, La Brenne comprises over 1,400 small lakes, made during the Middle Ages for fish-farming. Today, it is an internationally important wetland wildlife habitat, harbouring many species of wild plants and animals, including the endangered European Pond Turtle, and providing excellent opportunities for bird-watching, angling, cycling and walking.

Close by you can see the stunning architecture in the mediaeval town of St Benoit de Sault, which has won awards as one of France’s most beautiful towns.

Other nearby attractions include the spectacular Creuse valley, a very popular spot for kayaking; Lac D’Eguzon, a reservoir formed by flooding the valley with a hydroelectric dam, creating a beautiful lake for swimming and water-sports; and lovely fresh-water swimming lakes at Belabre and Chaillac. The Futuroscope theme-park at Poitiers is also within easy reach.
