Charming Holiday Home for Rental in St Julien aux Bois, Correze, France

BIENVENUE !Welcome to 'La Vieille Auberge' - a unique French holiday retreat.

This old coaching inn, situated in the picturesque village of St Julien aux Bois, is a stunning period property of great character, comfort and warmth.

It is the perfect base from which to explore one of the most beautiful regions of France and the unspoilt local scenery.

Built as a Coaching Inn in 1812, you will still find some of the original features dating back many years. The stone trough at the front where the horses would drink. The iron ring where the horse would be tethered and the stone bench where the coachman would rest in the morning sun. Almost two centuries later, the house has been sympathetically updated with three bathrooms, central heating, huge log-burner, kitchen and a dining room fit for a banquet.

It is claimed that on one of his visits to the Correze region, Jacques Chirac stopped to look at this beautiful old house whereupon he was invited inside and stayed to eat. The meal was prepared by a local lady who still lives in the village.

'La Vieille Auberge' is available to rent and is ideal for couples or groups of up to six adults and possibly two children. If you have any questions, the owner will also be delighted to speak to you personally.

Rooms: La Vieille Auberge is very spacious and will comfortably sleep up to 6 adults, with the potential for a further 2 children to sleep in the traditional wooden bed downstairs or the guest bed located in one of the bedrooms.

The house has gas central heating with the addition of two log burning stoves.
NOW WITH WIFI ☺

There are three main bedrooms (one twin bedded and two double.) Two of these have en-suite bathrooms, there is also an additional shower room and separate toilet downstairs.

The central dining room has a large dining table to seat up to 16 people in true old world style.

Local Attractions

St julien aux Bois (19220) is situated in the Correze, within the Limousin, one of the most unspoilt rural regions of France. The area has stunning scenery and is the perfect destination for walking, cycling and watersports. With many lakes and rivers it is Anglers paradise.

It is a beautiful, quiet village where the rest of the world seems a million miles away. The best way of absorbing the fresh air, peace and tranquillity is to walk or cycle. The roads are extremely quiet, the pathways unspoilt and the locals are friendly . . . . . especially if you 'try' to speak French. Don't worry if you make mistakes, they'll help you!

Nearby amenities
The village of St Julien aux Bois has a very nice restaurant with a reasonably priced menu, famous for using local produce. The small town St Privat is just 5 minutes away and has several restaurants, a bank, supermarkets and a few shops. It also has a very good tourist information centre where the staff are extremely helpful.

Places to visit
All the information you are likely to need can be found at the tourist information office in St Privat. However, within just a few kilometers of the village is the medieval ruin, 'Tours de Merle'. This is an absolute must on your places to visit, but remember to take comfortable shoes!

Cheese
The most famous 'local' cheese is the Cantal. The dairy is just a short drive away which has a shop open to the public. If you like Goats cheese, the area boasts 'arguably' the finest producer of goats cheese in France. Contact me for directions.

Lakes
The region has many lakes, most with beach areas for swimmers and water lovers. The secret is actually finding them! These lakes are located in beautiful areas, ideal for lazy days, picnics, walks and fishing.

Fishing
Fishing licences are available from the fishing tackle shop in Argentat where you can also get advice on where to fish and what you'll catch.
