Moulin d’Ibure is a former water mill, situated nearby the Atlantic coast only 30km East of Biarritz in quiet rural surroundings at the border of the village Bardos. The property covering about 7,4 acres has a vast garden with very old plane trees, meadows, flowered bushes and subtropical plants. It consists of two houses: the former house of the miller “Maison Ibure” and the ancient original mill building “Moulin”. Both properties have been completely renovated and equipped as comfortable holiday homes and newly furnished in a bright and tasteful style.
Each house is an independent unit with separate entrance, own terrace and a large own area of the garden which is clearly devised by the former mill channel. Furthermore in a third building 'Atelier' there is a laundry room with washing machine etc.
Moulin:
Historical watermills in the region were generally not equipped with waterwheels, but with wooden turbines. A massive bridge-like building arches over this part of the mill complex. Where flour was once milled, in the Moulin, there is now a light-flooded, spacious holiday home with approx. 100 m² of living space for 6 people. The entire building is laid out with natural-colored parquet flooring and is divided into a very spacious living/dining room with an open kitchen, 3 double bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, each with a bathtub with shower attachment, bidet and toilet. From all windows, the view sweeps over the green valley of the Lihoury. With just a few steps, you can step out of all rooms directly into the green, find a shady spot under the mighty plane trees along the river, or enjoy the day on the wooden balcony terrace that surrounds the house.
The Area:
Moulin d’Ibure is situated in the middle of the gently hilly landscape of the outskirts of the Pyrenees. Here you can enjoy peace and tranquillity. When you climb the outlook tower of Bardos, you will be overwhelmed by the fascinating view of the Atlantic Ocean in the west and the Pyrenees in the south! And, you can easily reach both whenever you like. At the coast south of Biarritz there are plenty of nice bays to swim and north of it the well-known long white Atlantic beaches. In the back country you can discover typical picturesque Basque villages. Explore the beautiful historic old town of Bayonne or a visit to Saint Jean de Luz is worthwhile.
The area is a real paradise for surfers and golfers; there are various possibilities for horse riding and marvellous hike paths.
For those who are interested in the culture life there is a lot to discover: museums as the ‘Musée Bonnat’ and the ‘Musée Basque’ in Bayonne, festivals of music and dance, not to forget the vast choice of markets providing regional delicacies! Even Spain and the pulsating cities San Sebastian, Pamplona or Bilbao with its famous Guggenheim museum in are not far away. The choice what to do and where to go might be difficult and often holidays are just too short to experience all attractions.
Thermes de Salies-de-Bearn and Makila Golf Club are worth checking out if an activity is on the agenda, while those in the mood for shopping can visit Ametzondo Shopping and L’Atelier du Chocolat. Travelling with kids? Consider Patinoire Municipale d'Anglet and Biarritz Aquarium. Scuba diving and snorkelling offer great chances to get out on the surrounding water, or you can seek out an adventure with mountain climbing and hiking/biking trails nearby.
Travelling here:
A part from coming in one’s own car, a flight combined with car hire is an attractive alternative way of travelling to this lovely region of France. There are well-priced offers to the nearby airports of Biarritz, Pau, Bordeaux, Lourdes, Toulouse or Bilbao. This way even a short one week holiday is worthwhile!
